Jean-Michel Bernard — piano

This is the newest series of chamber concerts organised as part of the Krakow Film Music Festival. Its idea came from the title of an album by a young Polish pianist and composer, Aleksander Dębicz, who performed during the first concert of the series last year. In subsequent editions, we will invite eminent musicians and composers to perform in the series, both newcomers and recognised artists, who will present their original interpretations of film music. The Cinematic Piano series combines traditional chamber music with film music, links generations, lets young pianist-composers shine, refreshes the works of the masters and allows the audience to discover previously unknown talents. Invited to perform the 2017 Cinematic Piano concert was French composer Jean-Michel Bernard. During last year's edition, he was a juror in the FMF Young Talent Award and conducted workshops for young composers, whom he unexpectedly captivated with his piano improvisation during the composition classes at the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music in Lusławice. That was when the idea of inviting him to participate solo in the Cinematic Piano series was born.
