Live from studio on FMF online

Jerzy Hoffman will be a guest of Scoring4Polish Directors

Monumental songs composed by Krzesimir Dębski, scenes from the classics of Polish historical cinema, and wonderful guests – this is what we can look forward to at the Scoring4Polish Directors concert, the fifth in the history of FMF. Playing suites from Jerzy Hoffman’s films, we pay tribute to the director, who proved that it is possible to make high-budget cinema and tell our story in Poland. During the evening, we will hear the unforgettable “Dumka for Two Hearts”. Join us at ICE Kraków on 27 May at 7 p.m.

The 13th Krakow Film Music Festival could not do without Jerzy Hoffman – a director called “the Great Hetman of Polish cinema” by critics and journalists, the creator of legendary adaptations of all three parts of Henryk Sienkiewicz’s Trilogy. “We are glad that such a noble figure of Polish cinema accepted our invitation. Krakow has already hosted many Polish directors at the FMF, including Agnieszka Holland and Andrzej Wajda. This not only raises the profile of the event, but also allows us to play music from films we all know very well”, says the Mayor of Krakow, Jacek Majchrowski.

In the first part of the Scoring4Polish Directors concert, we will hear iconic monumental songs created by Krzesimir Dębski for With Fire and Sword and Ancient Tale: When the Sun Was God. “The audiences will hear one of the greatest Polish film music hits, ‘Dumka for Two Hearts’. We will hear music from Leper, including Wojciech Kilar’s ‘Waltz’, which has been performed many times in Krakow, as well as works by Krzysztof Komeda from The Law and the Fist, by Piotr Marczewski from The Quack, by Andrzej Markowski from Pan Wołodyjowski and Kazimierz Serocki from The Deluge. The programme of the Jerzy Hoffman tribute concert tells the beautiful history of Polish cinema and at the same time is a review of the personalities of the most important music composers working for this director”, says Robert Piaskowski, the artistic director of the FMF.

According to tradition, the second part of the concert will be filled with music created for the Polish premieres of the last season. We have invited artists of the young generation, known to the festival audience, to work with us. Łukasz Targosz will present suites from two films produced by Watchout Studio: My Name Is Sara and The Coldest Game featuring Ania Karwan in “The Secret Game”. Maciej Zieliński will present the jazzy Initials SG and the electronic Servants of War. Another guest of the festival will be Leszek Możdżer, who will prepare a suite and perform the piano part from Icarus. The Legend of Mietek Kosz, a film co-produced with the Krakow Film Commission. “It is a great pleasure to present the best of the Polish music market on this evening. Observing the professionalism of the Polish audiovisual market, we can be proud of the films and series created in our country, as well as the music written for them. Of course, during the concert there will also be time for emotions, joy and reflection”, adds Izabela Helbin, director of the Krakow Festival Office, organiser of the Krakow Film Music Festival.

During the concert, the Polish Soundtrack of the Year award will be presented for the best soundtrack created for a Polish production in 2019. The co-organizer of the event is the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia in Katowice, which will develop concert visualisations.

The Scoring4Polish Directors concert will take place on Wednesday, 27 May at 7 p.m. at the ICE Kraków Congress Centre.
