The 11th FMF makes room for bands in Szczepański square!
From blues, through psychedelic rock notes, to incredible poetry of the everyday. During the 11th Film Music Festival, we will take our guests to four meetings with music created by young local artists. Participants of such festivals as Sziget in Budapest or Jarocin Festival have experienced their talent. From the 30th of May to the 2nd of June, the afternoons in Szczepański Square will be filled with sound. The outdoor concerts are open to all festival guests and residents of Krakow.
Wednesday – 30 May – 1.30 p.m. This is the start of Music in the City. Performing first in Szczepański Square will be a winner of many blues festivals in Poland – Levi. The band is famous for its spectacular combinations of different musical sensibilities. They are closest to blues, but they don’t avoid experimenting, which makes every meeting with Levi a musical surprise. In the nationwide Blues Top ranking, the band was named the “discovery of the year”. The public loves their skilful dosing of emotions. They can enchant with lyricism, and immediately afterwards, they can spread extraordinary energy. The band consists of five musical personalities, who had to work together a bit to achieve perfect cohesion.
Thursday – 31 May – 1.30 p.m. This date is reserved in our calendars for Sekcja Muzyczna Kołłątajowskiej Kuźni Prawdziwych Mężczyzn (Music Section of the Kołłątaj Forge of Real Men). It’s a commercial name, which makes it catchy and easy to remember. In fact, it is a group of men who sing about quite a lot. As they say about themselves: “We have grudges against the world, complaints, grievances and distance, because unfortunately, out of all possible people, we were both as ourselves. We’re a little like an accident in which a circus wagon crashed with a can full of teenagers. During our concerts, we talk a lot, because we have a lot to tell you and we look for similarities and common features. What unites people most often are problems. ;) We're fat, sad and lonely. Just like you.” In Szczepański Square, they will show us how to neatly combine humour and boyish nostalgia with unpretentious and absurd poetry.
Friday – 1 June – 1 p.m. Children’s Day will be an explosive mixture. Krakow band Neal Cassady combines psychedelic guitars with euphoric punk energy. It’s like a potent drug – strong on the record, more so live. The group has played dozens of concerts throughout Poland. They participated in several music festivals, including Jarocin Festival 2017, Soundrive 2016 Green Zoo and GrassRoots. In 2017, they played a concert at Zachęta in Warsaw and the Agnieszka Osiecka Studio in Warsaw (the Polish Radio Three studio). The band’s songs have been played many times by the most important Polish radio stations.
Saturday – 2 June – 1 p.m. For the conclusion of the city’s musical feast – Runforrest. He writes his own songs, and the quality of his poetry is very well established given his young age. The melodious tracks, filled with mature and intriguing vocals, embrace, charm and make us start breathing more easily. In November 2017, Runforrest released his self-titled debut EP, which gathered very good reviews and let him play several dozen concerts, all of them charming. He has performed very successfully during Enea Spring Break 2017 in Poznań, OFF Stage during the Netia OFF Camera Festival, Opole Songwriters Festival, Songwriter Łódź Festival, Czad Festival, House Gig Pogonka, Fama Festival, as well as Sofar Sounds Krakow and Sofar Sounds Warsaw. He has also opened for Kortez, Public Service Broadcasting (UK) and Mani Orrason (IS). Among his successes is also the title of the winner of the MILA 2015 Festival in Krakow and Finalist of the Bluesroads 2016 Band Review.
Music in the City – every day from the 30th of May to the 2nd of June in Szczepański Square. See you there!
