Born in Kobe, Japan, Makoto Kuriya is a renowned jazz pianist and musical producer with 14 albums under his belt. In 1998 he performed the ending theme of Neon Genesis Evangelion and he has been performing this animated series’ musical scores ever since. In 2004 Kuriya represented Asia at International Music Day celebrations at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. His acclaimed 2011 album Art of Life, commemorating the 20th anniversary of his debut, features a total of 27 artists showcasing diversity of jazz.
In recent years, Makoto Kuriya has been performing worldwide with his own group, including shows at various music festivals such as Jazzy Colors (Paris), City of London Festival (London), Jazz Now Festival (Sydney), Cologne Jazz Night (Köln), Tanjazz Festival (Morocco), Cairo Jazz Festival (Egypt), Steinway Festival (London) and London Jazz Festival (London). He also led many jazz sessions and workshops in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.
