You could say that film music found Heitor Pereira: He was brought in as a songwriter for the film As Good As It Gets, and soon discovered that his melodies and arrangements were destined for the screen.

Pereira’s original scores range from blockbuster family hits such as the Despicable Me, Minions, The Smurfs, and Curious George franchises and acclaimed dramas such as If I Stay starring Chloë Grace Moretz, A Little Bit of Heaven starring Kate Hudson, and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights to the mobile game market with the popular app Best Fiends. Pereira’s film scores have garnered critical acclaim and accolades, including two Annie Award nominations (Despicable Me 1 & 2) as well as eight ASCAP Film & TV Music Awards. He has also has been a featured guitarist or composed additional music for some of Hollywood’s biggest movies of the last decade, including The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Black Hawk Down, Mission: Impossible II, The Simpsons Movie, Angels & Demons, and Madagascar.

Hailing from Brazil, Pereira played guitar with some of the country’s legendary musicians such as Ivan Lins, Milton Nascimento and Caetano Veloso, to name a few. As a guitarist, Pereira became a member of the international British soul band Simply Red throughout the early ’90s. As a solo artist, he has released three albums and he has collaborated as an artist or arranger with musical icons Jack Johnson, Bryan Adams, Elton John, Melody Gardot, Willie Nelson, Shania Twain, Seal, and Nelly Furtado. In 2005, Heitor Pereira won a Grammy for “Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist” for his collaboration with Sting and Chris Bottie.

Upcoming releases for Pereira include the documentaries Sonic Sea and The Last Animals as well as summer animated blockbuster, The Angry Birds Movie.
