Doctor of musicology, music journalist, culture manager and publisher. He studied musicology at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków and at Heidelberg University. Long-time associate of the Institute of Music of the University of Silesia in Cieszyn and the Institute of Musicology of the Jagiellonian University. Winner of the Ray E. & Ruth A. Robinson Musicology Award, scholarship holder of Deutscher Musikrat, Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung, “Polityka”weekly and the Foundation for Polish Science.
As a music critic and columnist, he has collaborated with “Tygodnik Powszechny”, “Ruch Muzyczny”, Polish Radio Two and Radio Kraków; he has published essays and critical texts in Polish press (“Glissando”, “Didaskalia”, “Teatr”) and foreign press (“Neue Musikzeitung”, “MusikTexte”, “Neue Zeitschrift für Musik”). Since 2013, he has been the editor-in-chief, and since 2017 also the director of the Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne publishing house. He was in charge of the 100 for 100. Musical Decades of Freedom project, prepared as part of the celebrations of the centennial of Poland’s regaining independence.
