Richard Bellis

Richard Bellis
Richard Bellis
Emmy Award-winning composer. He began his show business career acting in movies and TV, but later turned his attention to music, fronting his own Dixieland band and writing arrangements for several Los Angeles-based big bands. After graduating from high school in 1964, Bellis spent several years arranging and/or conducting for a number of top Las Vegas acts and popular vocal groups. In 1976, he returned to Los Angeles on a full-time basis to begin a film-scoring career. He won an Emmy for the score of 1990’s Stephen King’s IT and received Emmy nominations for HBO’s Doublecrossed and ABC’s Double, Double, Toil & Trouble.

In addition to his film-scoring career, Bellis is a past president of the Society of Composers & Lyricists and a former governor of Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (Emmy Awards). He served on the faculty of University of Southern California, where he lectured for 11 years in Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television program. For 21 years he served as host/mentor of ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop with Richard Bellis, arguably the most prestigious workshop for the young composers in the world. Bellis is currently a member of Board of Directors of American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. He is the author of The Emerging Film Composer: An Introduction to the People, Problems and Psychology of the Film Music Business.
