FMF Ambassador Award

The Minimalist bronze statuette, created by Stanisław Juszczak, presents two mobile wheels arranged in such a manner that one always sets the other in motion.
It is an interdependent system in which success depends on collaboration and mutual action. Basically, the award is dedicated to all who are friends and facilitators, who create permanent connections with the world and constantly strive for more of them. The FMF Ambassador is a person or institution which permits us to draw closer to the global music and film world, aid- ing in collaboration and enabling new contacts. They are a guide in the learning process, helping the festival to achieve its long-term goals.

We are giving the first FMF Ambassador award to Nancy Knutsen, a longtime friend of the FMF, for years Vice President for Film and Television Repertoire at ASCAP, the producer of the Association’s annual Film and Television Music Awards; a consultant to the board of the Young Musicians Foundation; a member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Women in Film and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences; as well as, finally, the founder of the Advisory Committee of the World Soundtrack Academy, headquartered in Belgium. Before starting work at ASCAP, Nancy was assistant to composer John Williams and manager of the Boston Pops and Boston Symphony Orchestra. She has worked with the greatest composers and conductors of our time, among others Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, André Previn and Henry Mancini.

It is Nancy who first introduced us to Elliot Goldenthal, Hans Zimmer, Craig Armstrong and Angelo Badalamenti. It was her work which cemented our collaboration with the FIMUCITÉ Festival and the Gent Film Fest, bringing growing renown to the FMF during various international film and music conferences, among others Sundance and SXSW, as well as in Seattle, Vancouver and Toronto, at the International Film Festival in Ghent, and at festivals in Santa Barbara and Palm Springs.

We are naming Nancy FMF Ambassador because she has for years shown great commitment to assisting in the development of contacts with many of our foreign industry partners. With this symbolic award, we thank Nancy for her years of dedication and friendship, wishing her many more musical adventures, as well as more frequent visits to the FMF in Kraków.
